Das Tal New MMORPG With Open PVP Full Loot and Limited Grind!

dastal

Das Tal is a new upcoming open world MMORPG, it’s being produced by indie developers Fairytale Distillery and is still in early development. They have plenty of great features planned, with the focus of the game being on PvP. They will have a player driven economy, crafting and adventuring, as you would expect by today’s standards.

What does Limited grind mean?

It means that we’re planning to have a daily XP gain limit (cap). We feel that the current system of “farm as much as you want” often leads to unnecessary grind-to-the-level-cap races and that we’d rather have a little bit of progression every day instead. We’ll also have ways for clan members to help their mates by “donating” them XP so that everybody can focus on the main part of the game: PvP.

It sounds like it will really help keep the focus on the PvP, hopefully this will have a strong community because of it. A daily XP limit sounds like it could be a great idea if done right, let us know what you think, and I’ll keep you up to date with progress on the game.

Like Graphic Novels? Like Eve? True Stories Issue #3 Out Now

evetruestories

CCP Games and Dark Horse have been releasing their graphic novel EVE: True Stories, online and for free. It’s based on the exploits of EVE Online players and has really great production value. Issue number three is out now and you can get it here.

Inspired by actual player events, issue #3 of EVE: True Stories “Thieves Among Us” is the continuation of one of the greatest gaming stories of the last decade and is available as a free download from Dark Horse Digital or via the Dark Horse Android and iOS apps.

Written by legendary writer Daniel Way (Wolverine: Origins, Deadpool), with artwork by Fredrico Dallocchio (Batman: Arkham Unhinged, Suicide Squad), and cover art from CCP Art Director Borkur Eiriksson, issue #3 is the penultimate chapter in the “Thieves Among Us” storyline.

The story builds to a crescendo with issue #4, due out on April 2, as another free download from Dark Horse Digital.

Free To Play – The Movie from Valve

freetoplay

Free To Play is a feature-length documentary brought to us by Valve. It’s really interesting and follows three lads from the Ukraine, Singapore, and the USA. They are professional gamers and the documentary follows them as they compete for a million dollar prize in the first Dota 2 International Tournament.

In recent years everybody has seen electronic sports grow massively. There are now multiple games boasting over a million dollars in prize money, it’s up for grabs for those elite players at the top of their craft. For the three young players nothing would ever be the same again. The film documents the challenges and sacrifices required of players to compete at the highest level.

It’s just over an hour long, let me know what you think. Have you ever played for money? What would you do if you won a sweet $1 million in a gaming tournament?

Line of Defense New Screenshots Released

LOD

Line of Defense is the new large scale MMOFPS coming to us from the developers 3000AD. They just released a bunch of screenshots that I’m going to share here with you. My first thought is that it does remind me of Planetside, but it will be great to have more competition in this genre (even if some of the visuals are similar for now).

WarGaming.net $300,000 Tournament Details Released

wargaming

Wargaming have shared additional information about their Wargaming.net Grand Finals, taking place April 4 – 6 at the Multikino Zlote Tarasy in Warsaw, Poland, including details on the $300,000 prize pool up for grabs by the competitors.

“Events like this help build the popularity of cybersports by not only providing players with incentive to participate but also quality entertainment for the spectators,” said Jonghyuk Baak, Global eSports Director at Wargaming. “We want to thank all of the players, teams, and partners involved in the Grand Finals for their generosity in assisting us in organizing a world class event that will turn Warsaw into the eSports capital of the world this April.”

I completely agree with Jonghyuk Baak, putting this kind of money up for tournaments is always going to raise the bar. I grew up playing online tournaments when there were only bragging rights. It’s great to see more and more games with cash to win at high level play.

The seeding ceremony will be held on March 24, 2014 at ESL studio in Cologne, Germany. To maximize geographic separation, 14 teams will be drawn into two groups using a “controlled random” system. On March 25, ESL will broadcast the video on the Wargaming.net League EU twitch channel at 19:00 CET. Then, the video will be uploaded on YouTube, news portals, and to social networks.

Following the festive Opening Ceremony, set to take place at 12:00 CET on April 4, these 14 best performing tank squads from all over the globe will play a series of matches, spread over three days. Except for the first day, tournaments will start at 9:00 CET and end at around 19:00 CET, with the Winners Ceremony slated to take place at 19:00 CET on April 6. All games will be streamed live on the Wargaming.net League Twitch channels:

·        Europe, North America
·        Asia
·        South Korea
·        Poland

The international eSports celebration will be free to the public, with a variety of prizes for spectators including stage giveaways, invite and bonus codes for World of Tanks, as well as exclusive goodie bags for the most avid spectators. Live stream viewers will be able to win invite and bonus codes as well, during the many hours of match streaming.

The World of Tanks player community will be able to partake in a creative “Cheerleading Madness Contest” by creating a short video that shows their support for one of the eSports teams participating in the Grand Finals.
The sponsors of the tournament are Razer, PayPal, Alienware, and the City of Warsaw.

“PayPal is proud to be associated with World of Tanks, Wargaming.net League Grand Finals and Wargaming in general to help them reach out to millions of consumers globally,” said Gaël Jouaillec, Head of Digital Goods at PayPal.

“Supporting the Grand Finals in this amazing town of Warsaw demonstrates our willingness to be close to gamers thanks to our fundamental ability of making payments simple, easy and secure. May the best team win!”

“eSports are among fastest-growing trends in gaming, and Poland boasts one of Europe’s largest World of Tanks communities, with lots of players from Warsaw,” said vice president of Warsaw Michał Olszewski. “We are delighted to host this year’s Grand Finals and show our city to the international guests.”

Trials of Ascension MMO Gameplay Video is Perma Death a Good Idea?

toa

If you don’t know yet, Trials of Ascension is an upcoming MMORPG that will feature perma-death. I’m an old school gamer and I weep at how “easy” most MMO’s have become. With perma-death you actually care about the fights you get into. So far it sounds great, there is no intention to spoon feed everything to new players, you will have to explore and find out about the game by…. playing the game! An old concept but it seems oddly fresh in this world of auto-help easy mode MMO’s.

The team over at Forged Chaos have released this game play video as a celebration after hitting their $24k crowd funding goal. They still have $16 to go to hit their 100% goal, I have no doubt they will reach it.

Let us know what you think, post your thoughts in the comments on Facebook.

Project Velyria Adds Professions to the MMO Dungeon Crawler

projectvelyria

Project Velyria is the dungeon crawling MMO brought to us by MADSOFT Games. It’s browser based and quite interesting if you are looking for something a little different mixed with an old school feel.

The most recent update to Project Velyria is adding professions to the game. They weren’t planned at launch but as the game has rapidly grown it was seen as a wise move to improve the game play.

We hadn’t anticipated including professions at launch, but as we built the in-game trading system, we found that crafting would play a vital role in the evolution of Velyria’s economy. Knowing that they were essential, we put our nose to the grindstone and finalized the details for the professions.

The professions are all based around the in game economy, they add the all important crafting elements. As expected, each profession will focus on certain types of weapons and items. With each class divided into sub tiers of experience, lower levels will be crafting the materials needed by the higher level crafters.
