Elite: Dangerous Alpha 4 has recently launched and it’s offering a lot more freedom for players to trade their way through the star systems, pirate, hunt for bounties, and become immersed in exploration and combat with a choice of ships and weaponry.

Elite’s Alpha stage 4 has five star systems, centred around the Boötes constellation, with two additional methods of travel make their full debut in Alpha 4; super-cruise for accelerated within-system travel and hyperspace jumps for travel between systems. There are also new ships available to pilots, including the Anaconda. I’m really impressed at the amount of game that’s already available in Alpha!

The five Alpha 4 star systems are themselves set within 400,000,000 star systems of the Milky Way galaxy, all of which are moving correctly; spinning and orbiting in an incredible ballet. Whilst exploration is currently limited to the five Alpha 4 systems, the ‘night sky’ is accurate wherever you travel. Just this fact alone will have me sat in my spaceship, with my music on low watching the Galaxy go by, incredible.

Trading between systems has been introduced for the first time, using a sophisticated market that dynamically evolves according to local supply and demand. The trading is one of the biggest things I’m interested in and I’m looking forwards to see how this whole stage pans out.

Funcom’s Age of Conan turns six and brings plenty of new content to celebrate! The game expands with the special Shadows of the Past anniversary event and the Festival of Bloodshed Player-vs-Player (PvP) update. In the Shadows of the Past event players get to take on a brand new adventure where they uncover a plot against King Conan himself and travel back to the island of Tortage to discover the true power behind this new threat.

The all new Festival of Bloodshed PvP system offers a whole new range of activities for the players. Every month there will a be week-long PvP festival, where players face off against each other in many unique events. The system also contains all new PvP Quests and fresh rewards, such as a companion who will taunt nearby players based on their number of PvP deaths.

For one week every month a location in Hyboria will become the theater for a Festival of PvP. The PvP servers will cycle between open-world zones, these zones have been carefully picked with help from the community to support the best open-world PvP. On the dedicated PvE server the festival will take place in the Border Kingdoms, an area permanently flagged for PvP, so that PvP on that server remains completely consensual.

When a PvP Festival starts, the Border Kingdoms on Crom or the one of the chosen zones on Fury/Rage will become host to a number of brand new PvP events. The zone will cycle through the events and will have a short downtime between each. Find out more about the events on the official site.

The upcoming stress test for EndWar Online has been dubbed Tech Assault Final Clash. It will take place on Saturday the 24th of May with a lightning fast 2 hour tactical strike running from 19:00-21:00 UK time (British summer time – BST).

During this test everyone is auto leveled to 20 out of the gate, and given access to each and every Commander that’s available for the test. All unit upgrades will automatically be unlocked and applied to your units, so it’s going to be an awesome two hours free for all with decent levels.

This test is all about no-holds barred PvP mayhem! The EndWar Online Team claim to have put together some decent server infrastructure, and they don’t believe that it will bow under the pressure of even the most intense gaming!

To give you some incentive to try and crash the servers while having a blast here’s your carrot on a stick. Players who complete 7 matches within the first hour of this test will receive higher priority access to EndWar Online’s Closed Beta phases, which will require a key to enter.

Central to EndWar Online’s gameplay are its Commanders. In Tech Assault Final Clash, we’ll be introducing 2 brand new Commanders per Faction, opening up even more strategic variance in the never-ending quest to climb to the top of the leaderboard.  Key gameplay mechanics have also been upgraded, including a completely overhauled Command Point system, as well as the ability to bring 6 Commanders to the battlefield!

F.E.A.R never dies! It sure seems that way, ever since the fast paced horror shooter first hit the shelves it’s been a favourite of mine. Aeria Games have announced the launch of their beta for F.E.A.R Online, a new-look free-to-play version of the celebrated horror series.

Player feedback from the alpha was taken into account to ensure an even better and more terrifying experience for all players when they hurtle into the beta. Extensive redesign and adjustments to the gameplay make for a truly unique FPS, with new maps, a new scenario and a redesigned crafting system which allows for making one-of-a-kind weapons. Even if you played the recent Alpha you should expect plenty of new changes.

F.E.A.R. Online will remain focused on several team combat modes spanning over ten ominous maps packed with grotesque details such as still-twitching bodies hanging from meat hooks and messages smeared in blood.

The story also continues in cooperative scenarios that detail the terrifying occurrences surrounding the F.E.A.R. team parallel to the events of F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin. Up to four players can team up and fight for their lives against both hostile Armacham personnel and hideous monsters lurking around every corner.

Swordsman is the upcoming free-to-play martial arts MMO by Perfect World Entertainment.

Swordsman is set in ancient China in the middle of a blood-soaked decade. Ten forces have been at war with each other in a bloody attempt to become the most powerful martial arts clan. The hunt is on for an ancient scripture containing Kung Fu secrets that can bring immense power to the clan who possesses it.

Each class has it’s own particular weapons and style of fighting. Do you go for buffs and powerful attacks like the Shaolin, or perhaps the poison of the Five Venom School, or how about the Zephyr’s powerful crowd control?

You have probably heard by now that WoW is currently updating the visuals of their older models. It’s always a good idea to update visuals when a game has been out for so long, and the style is always evolving.

The female Night Elf was actually one of the first models we started, but as we began to develop our other character models, we also wound up refining the overall look we were going for with the models and our processes for creating them. Ultimately, we felt that in order to do the female Night Elf justice, we needed to revisit her model with fresh eyes and continue iterating based on what we’d learned from working on the other models. The Night Elves have such a distinct but subtle character, and we spent a lot of effort in trying to help that come through.

When you compare the older models with the new the difference is quite obvious! I think they’ve done a good job of keeping the feel of the night elf while bringing the model more up to date. I look forwards to seeing more of the updates as they are released.

Marvel Heroes have released a brand new type of content called One-Shot Stories. One-Shots are not entire chapters in the story, they are small snap-shots of the Marvel Heroes Universe that can take place within or outside the game’s primary storyline. They allow for the inclusion of new super villains, new motion comics and new types of enemies who otherwise may not be added to the main storyline for some time. It’s a good idea to add game play that doesn’t necessarily follow the exact same timeline.

The first One-Shot story focuses on Man-Ape and his attempt to overthrow Black Panther as the king of Wakanda. Taking a cue from the Black Panther comic books, players will be assisting T’Challa in protecting the Vibranuim mines from Man-Ape and other villains. Gazillion plans to continue releasing more One-Shots that will allow players to experience even more stories within the Marvel Heroes Universe.

Xsyon the apocalyptic fantasy sandbox MMO, kicks off it’s weekend event series this Saturday and Sunday with a PvE Raccoon Roundup combat event. This event will be running on both the War and Peace servers so everyone will get to join in. Players will hunt giant wild raccoons in the competition to become the Xsyon Raccoon Rajah.

Events are being organized and planned for the coming weeks and throughout summer, including races, obstacle courses, scavenger hunts, skill contests, combat arenas, architecture competitions and much more. Xsyon is encouraging all players to join in these events, participate in the fun and everyone has a chance to win valuable in game prizes.
