Archlord 2 closes its doors.

Archlord 2 is set to close its doors on November 24th 2015. In a statement on the official website the team behind the failed game had the following to say;

Dear Chantrans,

Today, we have some very sad news for you. Unfortunately, the time has come for Archlord 2 to close its doors for good. In roughly 2 months’ time, on November 24th 2015, the servers for Archlord 2 will be deactivated and it will no longer be possible to play the game after that.

Archlord 2 has been a great adventure for all of us, and we sincerely hope that you have enjoyed your time with the game and the friends you made while playing it. We know we have.

Archlord 2 History

Although Archlord 2 has not been around as long as some other titles, it has had a quite impressive history. Over the course of its life, over 300,000 players have logged on to Archlord 2 for a combined total of over 5 million hours(that’s over 580 years!) of play-time.

Together we’ve released and enjoyed 7 major updates, along with numerous smaller content patches, events and other milestones. You have created more than 400,000 characters, ventured into nearly 1.5 million dungeons and fought on over 2,000 battlegrounds.

During this time, Chantra has had numerous rulers, memorialized in this Hall of Fame:

But everything must come to an end, and the time has come to say goodbye and farewell to Archlord 2.

Farewell Events

To make these last few weeks of the game as enjoyable as possible, a whole host of server buffs will be enabled, plenty of additional event content will be scheduled and the prices for all items in the in-game shop will be reduced to 0 Wcoin. This will take place during the scheduled maintenance for Tuesday, September 22nd.

The following buffs will be active for the remainder of Archlord 2:

  • Character Experience gain +100%
  • Weapon Mastery gain +100%
  • Gold gain +100%
  • Item drop rate +100%
  • Fame point gain +100%

(Please note: these increases apply only to gains made from killing monsters / opponents).

Additionally, the El Dorado event map, as well as extra castle sieges and guild battles will open according to the following schedule:

El Dorado: Everyday

  • EU: 10:00, 13:00, 16:00, 18:30, 21:00, 23:00 UTC
  • US: 01:30, 04:00, 06:00, 17:00, 20:00, 23:00 UTC

Guild versus Guild: Everyday – EU: 19:25 UTC & US: 02:25 UTC the next day (we may still adjust this schedule). Please note: Guild battles will only have a preparation phase of 5 minutes, while castle sieges may overlap with the Assassination battleground!

  • Mondays: Grassy Fields / Green Wave Forest guild battles
  • Tuesdays: Red Rock Wasteland / Frozen Paradise guild battles
  • Wednesdays: CASTLE SIEGE
  • Thursdays: Forgotten Land / Ruined Moonlight Plains guild battles
  • Fridays: Fury Mountain / Land of Warriors guild battles
  • Saturdays: Land of Corruption / Sunny Garden guild battles
  • Sundays: regular GvG schedule

Looking toward the future

While we are naturally sad to see Archlord 2 go, keep in mind that the adventure does not end there. The Webzen.com portal features many great games, and we will shortly be adding some new titles, such as the recently announcedELOA, and ASTA – The War of Tears and Winds!

Alongside a general Wcoin refund, we will also be organizing special welcome gift packs for other WEBZEN titles (see FAQ section below).

We are truly grateful to all our loyal players and we hope that you have enjoyed your time with Archlord 2.

New Map and Regiments for Call of Combat

Call of Combat

Regiments are back

This is a major update, because after some technical testing, Call of Combat are enabling Regiment competitions for good. You can start applying to your former Regiment, or endorse a candidate Regiment. CO’s and XO’s can now accept or reject applicants. If you are a born leader you can start your own Regiment and bring it to glory. You will find more details here.

And there is a new map

In this update you will also find a new map, which you will undoubtedly recognize from its massive building and endless corridors. They have named this new iteration “Art Gallery”.

These are the first stones in bringing the competition back for good. The game still requires many improvements, extra features and game play tweaks, but remember: every one is invited to play and send feedback on your experience. The road ahead is still long and challenging. Take heart, soldiers. The journey will be tough, but our cause is just.

Download and play from the official Call of Combat website.

Phoenix Update for Dirty Bomb

dirty bomb

Dirty Bomb’s fourth medic has arrived to heal the sick and shred the healthy, and he’s bringing along a whole bunch of new features as well. Check it all out the update below!

New Merc: Phoenix

Phoenix is a Doctor. A healer. A saver of lives. An arrogant bastard who broke his Hippocratic Oath ten minutes into his first surgery and thought self-replicating nanomachines would be an exceptional instrument for face-lifts and nose-jobs. After the Spanish medical community banished him for ethical violations bordering on mad science, Phoenix has risen again, finding his way to London to see what his special little friends can do on the battlefield.

His prototype nanites mend the wounds of himself and his nearby allies, and trigger the ability that lends him his name. More offensive-minded than Aura and Sparks, Phoenix heals his teammates by being right in the thick of things.

Ability: Healing Pulse

Phoenix can trigger his experimental nanites to spread to nearby allies, instantly mending their wounds, and his own as well. The longer he spends charging the ability with the Q key (default), the more health the Healing Pulse restores, triggering an increased cooldown. But that’s not all the nanites do…
Ability: Self-Revive

The problem with needing to be near the people getting shot is that Phoenix can become something of a target himself. Luckily, those helpful nanites can revive him once downed, fully restoring his health. It takes a few seconds to trigger, so make sure that the enemy isn’t closing in to finish the job.
Ability: Defibrillators

Just like Aura and Sawbonez, Phoenix can also revive incapacitated allies with Defibrillators, bringing them back into the fight and restoring health based on how long the paddles have charged.
Loadout Cards

Phoenix’s SMG’s and Semi-Auto Pistols are effective close-to-medium-range workhorses. He has a full array of Loadout Cards, featuring Augments and other Weapons that let him hold his own in battle.

New XP Reward: Health Insurance

Phoenix’s messiah complex extends to his new ‘workplace’, along with his need to claim his share of the spotlight; introducing the new “Health Insurance” XP Reward!

After healing or reviving a friendly player, you’ll be rewarded with an XP bonus based on the XP your patient earns for the 10 seconds after being revived, which applies to all medics that put themselves in the line of fire for their teammates.

Player Reporting (Alpha)

While we’re keeping it as up-to-date as possible, our new anti-cheat system NGS is only one layer of protection. To support NGS, we are adding in the much-requested Player Reporting system. Accessible by right-clicking on another player’s name in the scoreboard, doing so will send a report to our team.

Due to the high impact of this system, Player Reporting is being released in an Alpha state. While we will be punishing guilty players in submitted reports as soon as possible, we do ask that you remain patient as we gather data and tweak the system’s parameters.

Updated Stopwatch Rules

We’ve improved the rules in Stopwatch Mode, properly rewarding teams who progress through the objectives the furthest. A few edge case situations are now accounted for, including the allowance of draws where appropriate.

Private Matches (Alpha)

Want to set up scrims with friends to practice strats, or defend your team’s honor against your rivals? The new Private Matches feature lets you organize your own match, invite members of your Steam Friends list, select whichever Map and Game Mode you want, and more!

Earning is disabled in Private Matches, turning off XP, Credits, Equipment Cases and Missions.

We’re releasing Private Matches in Alpha in order to better test the systems involved, as all matches played through Private Matches will still be on our dedicated servers. If you have any feedback, or encounter any problems, please let us know on the official Dirty Bomb Forums.

Friendly Fire in Private Matches

Private Matches will give you the option to test our new Friendly Fire setting. No standing in Airstrike territory or sending an Orbital Laser careening over the map willy nilly, your teammates will take damage from almost every source. Even more, allied players will have full collision with you, preventing you from running through them and their deployables.

As the scramble to finish and revive incapacitated players is a staple of Dirty Bomb, Friendly Fire does not apply to friendly incapacitated players. Defibrillators will also never harm friendly players.

We’re also trialing a punishment system for players abusing the Friendly Fire rules. When you are killed by one of your teammates, you will be prompted to sound off on the death:

If the team kill was accidental (or entirely your fault!), then type in “/f” to Forgive them, and all is well.
However, if you felt your teammate did it intentionally, then you can type in “/p” to Punish them, docking them 300 XP from their game score.
Once there have been 4 complaints against a player, a Vote Kick will automatically be started.
Once there have been 8 complaints against a player, they will be immediately kicked from the game, without the need for a vote.

Let us know how you get on with Friendly Fire, as we expect to tweak it based on your feedback!

Archlord 2 Season of Siege

Archlord 2

Webzen have announced that Archlord 2 has just released its latest content update, “Season of Siege”.

With this update, a new Castle Siege PvP system is introduced where player guilds can compete against each other to conquer the capital cities of the two factions! Building on the release of Guild Battles in May 2015, Castle Siege takes the competition for guild supremacy to a new level.

As the name suggests, the Castle Siege system involves an asynchronous PvP battle, where one team will have to defend a captured castle against an enemy team seeking to wrestle control of it from its defenders. For the first time in Archlord 2, players will be able to utilise special items such as bombs, barricades and guard towers to help them defend the castle or destroy the castle’s defences.

The Castle Siege will open once a week on Sunday at 19:00 UTC on the European server, and on Monday at 02:00 UTC on the American server. In turn, the Archlord Finals will be moved to a later time.

To celebrate the launch of this new update, WEBZEN is launching a level jump event that allows players to receive a free level boost for their character, enabling them to jump right into the action. Both new players and those who have not played the game in a while should not miss this chance to catch up quickly!

More information, including detailed preview announcements for the new Castle Siege system, can be found on the Archlord 2 official website.

EVE Online’s Galatea Release Brings Chaos to Amarr Space

EVE Online

As EVE Online’s Galatea release goes live, New Eden is still reeling from one of the most dramatic events in its rich history.

Just last week the leader of the Amarr Empire, the controversial Empress Jamyl Sarum I, was confirmed assassinated at the hands of the mysterious Drifters following several major standoffs between the Amarr Navy and the powerful wormhole-dwelling forces.

Players have since held their own vigils and said their remembrances. While the mourning period will last longer, there has been much discussion amongst capsuleers of the newly announced Succession Trials.

Set for a grand finale at EVE Fanfest 2016, the Amarr Championships are part of the Succession Trials. The series of battles will feature players fighting on behalf of the heirs of the royal Amarrian houses to pick the next ruler of the largest of EVE’s major empires.

However, while anticipation may grow for that event, the Drifter threat is not over and only seems to be intensifying, as their forces have begun all-out war with the Amarrian Navy in a new feature in the Galatea release—Defense of the Throne Worlds.

Galatea isn’t solely focused on the happenings in Amarr space, and offers several other big improvements for EVE players.

  • The EVE team remains committed to evolving the Sovereignty system introduced in the Aegis release. Changes include reducing the base capture time of Command nodes, giving defenders 60% control at the beginning of a capture event, reducing the cap on total nodes and the spawn rate of new ones, and replacing the Entosis Link mass penalty with a 4000 m/s speed limit when fitted.
  • Updated animations and effects for many combat and support modules, including the devastating Doomsday weapons
  • The first Designer SKINs have come to New Eden with the blood red “Raata Sunset” line for Caldari ships. More bold new styles will be coming in the following weeks and months.
  • A more satisfying killshot: the camera will now linger over the ship you just reduced to scrap so you can enjoy your victory just that much more
  • The iconic workhorse of the Gallente Federation, the Dominix, went back to the shipyards for a redesign which evolves its original utilitarian design into a truly inspiring battleship

Full patch notes, which cover dozens more improvements, can be found here.

Old School Runescape Tournament Success Despite Cyberattack

Runescape

Jagex Games Studio have announced that ‘The Abusement Park’ team secured a mighty victory in their inaugural Old School RuneScape Tournament. The event, which took place on the 15th/16th August, saw eight teams battle it out for a share of a $10,000 prize pool. Originally scheduled to take part at the start of the month, that first attempt was halted early on due to a significant cyberattack that prevented it from being livestreamed.

More than 240,000 unique viewers watched the tournament on RuneScape’s Twitch channel, with peak concurrencies in excess of 13,000 – more than double the usual figures recorded by typical Old School RuneScape livestreams! While the teams fought across a number of maps in game, a team of RuneScape experts commentated at a top secret bunker and watched the ebb and flow of battle, away from further threats of a cyberattack. The tournament was featured on Twitch’s homepage and ensured RuneScape maintained a top eight position on the platform’s most streamed list of games over the weekend.

‘The Abusement Park’ ultimately walked away victors and secured a $5,000 prize; ‘Fatality’ took the runners-up prize of $3,000; and ‘Flippergang’ secured the third-place prize of $2,000.

ASTA Coming to Webzen Later This Year

ASTA

Webzen have announced that the mmorpg “ASTA”, developed by Polygon Games, will be available on Webzen.com later this year. Webzen recently signed their latest partnership with developer Polygon Games in order to bring the Asian fantasy mmorpg ASTA to Western players through their global gaming portal.

ASTA – The War of Tears and Winds is a lively MMORPG featuring a rich world inspired by Asian culture, and offers a unique element of Asian fantasy along with vibrantly coloured graphics. ASTA will offer players a variety of options for races, classes and characters, along with classic MMO features like PVP battlegrounds and guild battles, a broad crafting system, scenarios and quests with rich lore, a player-driven economy and rewarding dungeons.

In line with the ‘Asian Fantasy’ theme, ASTA also features a moving soundtrack. This will incorporate a harmony of Eastern and Western instruments, composed by ‘Yang Bang-ean’, a world-famous composer responsible for the soundtrack of the game ‘Aion’.

Richard Sunmyoung Moon, Head of Global Business at Webzen, states: “We are very pleased to bring this new game to MMO enthusiasts in the West through our WEBZEN.com portal. Having years of service experience with free-to-play MMO games, we will work along with the developer to continuously localise and develop the game for the Western market. We will announce a schedule for the title soon, and reveal more details regarding the lore and the game systems, as well as some truly stunning in-game assets.”

Age of Wulin Chapter 7: Awakening

Age of Wulin

WEBZEN have announced that the Age of Wulin will release a new expansion on 25th August, named “Chapter 7: Awakening”.

Among the features of Chapter 7: Awakening are the coveted 5th Internal Skills, a level cap increase for combat and internal skills, and new special instances to tackle.

The ancient capital of Luoyang will be the stage of dramatic events, with a mysterious plague threatening to wipe out the population. It will be up to the adventurers to coordinate themselves and accomplish important missions to save the city and its inhabitants, while uncovering the truth behind these troubles. Players will be rewarded for their efforts while unlocking access to the 5th internal skills and the new challenging zones: Jinling Incident and Qiandeng Crisis. These two zones will require players to thwart plans against the Emperor and other Great Xias. These missions will offer precious items, helping characters to reach the 5th internal skills.

Along with the release of the 5th internal skills for existing Sects, Jianghu Factions will benefit from a boost to their own internal skills.

More information about “Chapter 7: Awakening” will be revealed on the Age of Wulin website.
