Turtle WoW, a private World of Warcraft server that focuses on the original “Vanilla” version (WoW 1.12.1), has been compromised in a recent hack. While details on the methods used are scarce, with only a lead from Reddit suggesting how it was done, it is confirmed that the server’s complete source code has been posted on the RaGEZONE forums.

The breach is significant, extending beyond just the leaked source code. According to a document obtained from archive.org, the hacker states:

Included is a full DB snap shot, full source code (all branches), logins, etc.
Theres some duplicate stuff.
Also some screenshots of internal chat.

Don’t forget that security is part of development. As a consumer, you don’t care what their code looks like until it matters.

Ignoring all the accusations of DDoSing, anti-competition, and being on /r/wowserver staff, etc, they have a very deep-rooted history of shadiness going back before they even started.

Turtle WoW runs on a modified version of MaNGOS (Massive Network Game Object Server), an open-source emulator designed to replicate the original World of Warcraft servers from the vanilla era (version 1.12.1), getting on board with Turtle WoW’s goal of making the classic experience even better.
