At the start of the 21st century, the widespread availability of the internet became bigger than ever before, and it has continued to grow since. With more and more people attending the world wide web, many companies began to try their hand at innovation, and thus today, we are spoiled for choice when it comes to content consumption. Not only can we play games, watch films/television shows, read books/comic books, but we can also create our own content, thanks to video hosting websites like YouTube and Twitch. In fact, streaming on Twitch is rapidly becoming one of the most popular forms of entertainment among the younger generation.

What is Streaming?

Streaming refers to the process of watching a video (whether a TV show, movie, or a real-time recording) without the need to download it or purchase a physical copy. Streams are watched directly through a website, the most popular of which today, is Netflix. Netflix was the company that kick started the online streaming movement, prompting quite a lot of companies to imitate the idea.

But it isn’t just show business companies that have jumped upon the streaming bandwagon. One of the industries where streaming is growing in popularity, is the iGaming industry. iGaming refers to online gambling (whether it be poker, slots, or betting), and in the past few years, an increasingly popular form of online gambling is attending live casino games. During these games, an audience of players can watch a livestream of a human host dealing the cards, and a select few of the audience are chosen to play against the host.

And finally, another hugely popular streaming service in 2022 is the website Twitch. Twitch is a video hosting website (similar to YouTube), through which people can stream the video games they are playing, while simultaneously giving their commentary. Of course, nowadays, Twitch has grown past the video game niche that it once inhabited, however, the website still has a strong gaming culture. So, let us look at just how popular Twitch streamers are.

Ninja

Ninja is the most popular Twitch streamer around today. With over 17 million followers from all over the world, Ninja has certainly done quite well for himself on the platform. While he mainly puts focus on Fortnite, one of the most popular games streamed on the platform, Ninja also has made quite a few videos streaming Apex Legends, League of Legends, Call of Duty, and various other games that have garnered attention.

Pokimane

Pokimane is a Moroccan-Canadian streamer, who holds the distinction of being the most followed female content creator on Twitch. Her focus seems to lie with League of Legends and Fortnite, two of the most popular video games in the world right now. With over 8 million Twitch followers, Pokimane is certainly one of the most successful streamers on the website. She also has several YouTube channels, where clips of her streams are posted, and she is also a co-founder of the Offline TV group of content creators. Recently, Forbes placed her on their 30 Under 30 list, for her achievements in streaming and gaming culture.

Auronplay

Raul Alvarez Genes is the creator behind the AuronPlay Twitch and YouTube channels. His success on both platforms is quite impressive, as he is the 2nd most popular Twitch streamer, and operates the third most subscribed to YouTube channel.

As far as Twitch is concerned, AuroPlay made his popularity on the website by streaming Grand Theft Auto V, a sandbox, action-adventure game, where players take the role of three different characters who have embroiled themselves in the urban underground.
