The “Primal” update for Fortnite Season 6 has dropped, and it adds a whole host of colourful new characters to play with, including everyone’s favourite Tomb Raider, Lara Croft.
Chapter 2 Season 6 has begun in the world of Fortnite, and with it comes a brand new battle pass packed full of character and weapon skins, the ability for players to craft their weapons in-game, and even tame animals that are now roaming around the island.
Epic Games, the development studio that created Fortnite, are no strangers to including famous character skins in their game for players to purchase and try out. Previous updates have seen Wolverine from the X-men, and Avenger Tony Stark added, as well as the T-800 from Terminator, Star Wars’ Mandalorian, and even famous Fortnite streamers like Loserfruit and Ninja, to name but a few.
This time it is Tomb Raider’s turn to get some love, and the move makes complete sense considering how popular of a character Lara Croft is in gaming. Since appearing in the first Tomb Raider game published way back in 1996, Lara Croft has become one of the most famous characters of all time, not just in video games.
Aside from the games, three major Hollywood blockbusters were made about her escapades, with a fourth in production. There is also a Tomb Raider comic book series published by Dark Horse. Her character has also been adopted by the iGaming industry too, as there is a slot game titled Lara Croft: Temples and Tombs that can be played at sites that offer free spins in Canadian Casinos, such as Casino Lab. And now she also features in Fortnite; the only real question left is why it took so long for them to make it happen.
The great thing about the Fortnite version of Lara Croft is that she caters to all of Tomb Raider fans’ different kinds. There are three versions to choose from, depending on which Lara Croft you like best. Classic for the old school, long-term Tomb Raider fans; prequel trilogy for newer fans that only jump on the Tomb Raider hype train with the latest games in the series; and retro, which is a version that is unique to Fortnite.
Alongside Lara Croft, football megastar Neymar Jr. also had his likeness added as a skin to the new battle pass, along with some typically fun and unique Fortnite characters such as the egg-shell wearing chicken Cluck and the intimidating Spire Assassin.
In addition to the new skins, players will also now have a lot more to do on the map besides surviving and being the last one. New materials have been scattered across the island for players to find and use to create rare and unique items and weapons that will reward those that go the extra mile to find suitable materials, such as the Primal Rifle and the Flame Bow.
Some of those craft mats will be found by hunting the new wildlife you will see inhabiting the island in season 6, from wolves and boars to chickens, but don’t be too trigger happy because some of them can be tamed and generally be more helpful alive than dead.
But that’s not all; players participating throughout Season 2 will get to find out how the Zero Point saga ends as the Epic Games confirmed the Zero Point Finale single-player event would greet every player who logs into the game for the first time in Season 6.
You can unlock the Lara Croft skin by levelling up your Season 6 Battle Pass to level 15; the 25th-anniversary classic skin unlocks on level 22. Simultaneously, there has been no indication of unlocking the polygonal retro skin so that it might be a secret or available for purchase from the in-game store.
Fortnite is a free-to-play battle royale multiplayer game available to play on Android, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch and Microsoft Windows computers.
