By typing /roll into the chat and pressing Enter, the game will automatically roll a number between 1-100 for you. While the command is most often used to determine loot priority in raids, it’s an excellent way to relieve your friends of some extra gold.
If you’re in a party or raid with someone, they will see the number you’ve rolled, and you will be able to see their rolls in return. So all you have to do is type in /roll and see what number you and the person you are wagering against got. The person with the highest number wins the predetermined amount of gold. Quite simple, isn’t it? And in case both of you roll the same number, simply reroll.
The Deathroll
Instead of typing /roll, did you know that you can do /roll and add any number? For example, if you type in /roll 500, the game will roll a random number between 1 and 500 rather than 1 and 100. So how does it work?
Before you start, set the amount you wish to wager. Then, set the death-roll number and decide who goes first. Around 5,000 will be enough, but you can even go higher if you want to have some more fun. Keep in mind that the death-roll number has nothing to do with the amount of gold you’re wagering, and here’s why.
To start, the player who goes first will have to roll the death-roll number that is 5,000 in our example. Therefore, type in /roll 5000. The game will get you a random number. Let’s say that you got 3138. The other player then has to roll using that number. In our case, they would type /roll 3138. The game will then roll the number between 1 and 3138 and give, let’s say, 447, at which point you will have to type /roll 447.
The procedure repeats until someone rolls a 1 and the first person to do so loses and has to pay up. That’s an endless source of fun right there!
Raid-Wide Fun
Last but not least, there’s raid-wide gambling, and anyone who’s in your raid can partake. While it can be done manually, having an add-on like CrossGambling makes the whole process a lot easier.
As is the case with every other method, decide on the amount you wish to gamble. Then, simply have everyone who wishes to partake roll that amount. After everyone has finished rolling, if you have the add-on, it will automatically calculate who has to pay how much and to whom. The winner is the player who rolled the highest, and the player who rolled the lowest number has to pay the difference to the player who rolled the highest.
