Players have been shocked by Have I Been Pwned‘s recent report which informs them that 1.8M users of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt forums have had account data taken during a large-scale hacking event that took place in March 2016. According to HIBP, user names, passwords and email addresses were taken. Users who signed up with Have I Been Pwned have received notifications about the breach and when wondering why the length of time between the event and notification, were told:
“Whilst the breach occurred in March 2016, sometimes there can be a lengthy lead time of months or even years before the data is disclosed publicly,” the message stated, in an email seen by IT Pro. “Have I Been Pwned? will always attempt to alert you ASAP, it’s just a question of how readily available the data is.”
