SOE have just released some footage of their recently announced EverQuest Next. If this game lives up to the promises, it’s going to be amazing. It’s a free to play next-gen sandbox MMO built on the ForgeLight Engine. EQ Next boasts a fully destructible world, think MineCraft but as a fully functioning MMO with a persistent, player influenced environment. Alongside the full destructibility, EQ Next will also feature – multiclassing,  emergent AI, permanent change and the ability to build the game along with the development team. Sony are claiming; “There has never before been a game like this.”

I played EverQuest 1 and 2, I loved them both, but what is being offered here is something altogether new. Your in game choices will literally change the game. Do you save a villager’s burning farm or choose to do nothing? Do you clear orc camps away from Qeynos or help them destroy the city? It will be very interesting to see how this plays out over time, I can see myself in some kind of archeological digging crossed with pirate team.
