To celebrate the ten year anniversary of the Battlefield series, DICE, an Electronic Arts studio, today announced that fans can download a free PC copy from www.origins.com.

“When we launched Battlefield 1942 ten years ago, we had lofty ambitions to create a first-person shooter that would push the boundaries of innovation, creativity and design. We evolved the FPS gameplay formula by introducing the world to all-out warfare via land, air and sea,” said Karl Magnus Troedsson, Vice President and General Manager of DICE.

They sure did have a huge impact on how people looked at FPS games, if you never played Battlefield 1942 this is a perfect opportunity to see where it all started. I spent countless hours playing this when it was 1st released, it wont hold a candle to newer games in terms of looks but game play, it’s got it by the bucket load.

Players will be able to play on online servers against others who have downloaded the anniversary edition from origin.
