Guild Wars 2 : First PvP League Season has begun

ArenaNet has announced that the inaugural PvP League Season begins today and it will come  along with the latest update. Players can take part in any number of ways, including the Guild Challenger League: To participate here, players form groups of five and join the League. Match statistics are tracked and rated with matchmaking pitting similar ranked teams against one another.

The Guild Challenger League is a direct path into the ESL Guild Wars 2 Pro League for you and your team. At the end of the league season, if you’re in the top five teams from the Guild Challenger League, you’ll have the chance to face off against the bottom three teams from the Pro League in the Guild Challenger Cup. If you’re in the top three teams from this tournament, your team will join the Pro League in the next season and compete for a share of $200,000 USD.

At this time, the Pro League’s map rotation consists of Conquest maps. Because the Guild Challenger League is a path into the Pro League, teams entering into the Guild Challenger Cup will need to be able to compete in Conquest. For this reason, only Conquest matches will count toward progress in the Guild Challenger League. Stronghold has proven itself to be popular, and we’ll be evaluating it for inclusion into more competitive play in the future. Until then, you can still play Stronghold as a guild team for personal league progress, guild missions, or just for fun.

Players can queue up individually for ranked play via the PvP panel. New players will, however, need to attain rank 20 prior to participating in ranked PvP. As players prgress through tiers and divisions in the PvP League, rewards are earned that can yield gold, shards of glory, transmutation charges, and dyes. There are also special PvP League tickets that can be earned and spent at vendors for legendary backpacks, shards of glory and llama minis.

Fallout 4 : Beware the Blow to the Head — Blurred Vision Can Ensue

Word is out that there is a new bug flying around in Fallout 4 that causes players to come down with blurred vision after a critical hit to the head. Others report that vision becomes black-and-white. Regardless of the affliction, vision is only returned to normal using a stimpak — resting and other health fixes do not correct the issue.

Bethesda’s role-playing games have had a kind of accepted shabbiness when it comes to glitches, somewhat like a good-hearted goof-off who turns his homework in late. A guy who heard my anguish on Twitter mentioned that his character shows two permanently broken arms, even though he still plays at full health. “Annoying but can still play,” he said.

That glitch is eye-twitching; this one is eye-watering. It’s very disappointing that a gameplay feature which alters the visual information couldn’t be completely bulletproofed. That said, I have no idea what triggered the glitch, and an open-world RPG such as Fallout 4 has simply too many scenarios, decisions and combinations such that everything can be tested and checked off.

Camelot Unchained : Healer Forms Revealed

The latest class archetype has been revealed on the Camelot Unchained site, the Healers. Healers, as with all classes in CU, come in three forms: Empath (Tuatha De Danann), Stonehealer (Viking) and Physician (Arthurian).

Only in the land of the Vikings would anyone throw rocks at people in order to heal them. While it is unfair that some claim Stonehealers are men and women who have fallen on their heads too often, it is true that being a Stonehealer does come with certain unique risks to the healers themselves. They are certainly among the most stubborn, thick-skulled defenders of the Realm!

Skyforge : War’s Onset update

The Skyforge developers are giving players a heads up that class rebalancing will be forthcoming with the War’s Onset update. Saying that classes need to be “brough more in line with each other” and as a way to assess each class’s functionality within the overall game, the team has been collecting data from a variety of sources including popularity by activity, PvP victories, deaths, convenience, completion speed and more.

A few examples include:

  • Assessment of why certain classes are more preferred to fulfill specific roles. The example given is how the Knight is the preferred Tank
  • Alchemist & Lightbinder support classes will be overhauled by keeping some skills ‘as is’ and making others more effective
The above are a pair of examples of upcoming changes. We’ll keep you posted of more as they arrive.

The Repopulation : Hero Engine troubles could cause downtime

The Repopulation, built using the Hero Engine is said to stand a real possibility that there will be serious downtime as a result of Idea Fabrik’s financial issues. The development team has forewarned its community about possible outages as it searches for alternatives to the troubled engine, though it would necessitate “rebuilding the game from scratch code wise, though some things would convert over (art, data)”.

Unfortunately at the time when we started out here the only viable options were Hero, Bigworld, or Torque 3D, with the first of those two having restrictive license agreements, and the third being a good rendering engine that lacked in MMO specific features. We weren’t ever to fully be able to get out of the agreement.

The risk of downtime is very real at this point, though there is still also some reason for hope that this will resolve itself in a positive way. We have already begun some early work on the most likely contingency plan, so that we aren’t just sitting idly. But we are limited still in what we can do as a result of being in money preservation mode while this plays out, so currently it’s mostly prep work and experimentation.
