There’s little doubt that Pokémon is one of those franchises that has gripped and captivated the younger generations for several years now. In fact, the original work created by Satoshi Tajiri and Ken Sugimori, was released in 1996. Yet, it was originally thought up in 1989, it just didn’t come to fruition until several years later. Beginning with Generation I, the series has since advanced along to Generation VII. Yet, could there be stiff competition on its heels with a new MMO game called Temtem?

This huge MMORPG has been developed by the Spanish development studio Crema, and it was released initially through Steam on January 21, 2020. There are also plans in place for the game to be released on PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch devices at a later time. That would give it even more of a reason to be a rival to the Nintendo Pokémon series.

Clearly, Temtem has been greatly inspired by the Pokémon franchise. Even some of the creatures that you’re able to catch and do battle with look similar. Then again, there have been so many Pokémon within games and television series, that this would be difficult to avoid. Yet, there’s something that Temtem provides over its rival – an increased emphasis on combat challenge and skill synergy. Unfortunately, it also lacks in certain areas in comparison, such as the fact that there isn’t really all that much actual multiplayer content to access.

Can Temtem Really Rival Pokémon?

As far as gameplay is concerned, players of Temtem still make their way through a variety of areas, capturing Temtem creatures as they go, which can then be put into battle against other Temtems. Of course, this is supposed to be an MMO experience, rather than a single-player title like Pokémon. Yet, many users have already mentioned that the Early Access version of the game doesn’t really provide much noticeable MMO. You’ll certainly be able to see other gamers traversing the archipelago while playing, but you’re unable to do anything other than give them a passing glance for the moment.

That being said, the game currently only has about 80 creatures available for players to capture. That’s not specifically a bad thing, as it will give players something to go at in these early stages. Could you really wager on it being a massive rival to Pokémon, though? Well, maybe in years to come, if it sorts certain aspects out. You never know, you could find it being a betting possibility at Ladbrokes, for example. Why not open yourself an account there and use the Ladbrokes bonus code so as to get a head start on things?

What would usually be found in MMO games – like raids or multiplayer excursions, for example – is not present within Temtem for the time being. And there’s a lot that operates in the same vein as Pokémon, including restoring battle points with Ether. In the end, Temtem may be too similar to its rival for its own good. Yet, if it manages to bring much more of an MMO element into the title, perhaps it could excel in areas that Pokémon doesn’t currently operate in.
